The Youth Ministries group at Bethel Chapel in Talmadge has been busy warming community members up from the inside out through its Breaking of the Bread program, which provides free meals once a week to any area residents.

The Breaking of the Bread program started at the church back in October, at which time the group made 17 meals.  Now, just three months later, the group is making 50 meals each Saturday, with a new goal of making 75.

According to Belinda Smith, of the church, the program started as an outreach from the church.  “We are firm believers that it is important to reach out into the community and demonstrate the love of God,” she said.

Meals include soups or casseroles, along with rolls and dessert.  “We also include a snack bag with either extra cookies or crackers,” Smith said.

The group does not accept donations; all meals are provided free of charge with no specific requirements to receive one.  “All you have to do is ask,” Smith mentioned.

The group does all of the preparation of the meals, the cooking, the packaging, and distributes them at pick up.  Deliveries can also be arranged for anyone in the Talmadge/Waite/Big Lake areas.

For anyone wishing to receive a meal, or for more information about the program, call Pastor Brent Grey at 207-403-3000.
