Bring the kids and join the fun at the library this Saturday, August 9! From 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., all ages are invited to get creative with a free rock painting activity. While you’re there, don’t miss the annual book sale hosted by the Friends of the Library, running from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It’s a great chance to pick up some new reads while supporting your local library. For more details on either event, call 207-454-2758.

The St. Croix Idol singing competition has wrapped up, and congratulations go to Dustin Ellis, this year’s winner! He’ll take the stage at Flat Iron Park on Saturday evening, August 9, ahead of the fireworks show that will close out the International Homecoming Festival. Follow International Homecoming Festival on Facebook for updates and start time.

You also won’t want to miss this Thursday evening’s concert at Flat Iron Park. Frank Richard and Deb Richard LaPointe will be performing together as Take Two, with their setlist blending classic rock, country, and blues. Frank’s music career began in his teens and includes stints with Tammah, Under Cover, Caught in the Act, and the family band Thicker Than Water, which released two albums and performed at major music events in Canada. Deb started performing at 15 and has played with groups like Tammah, Thicker Than Water, and One Night Stand. She’s also a skilled songwriter and in-demand studio collaborator. The concert is free and is presented by St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by WCCC.

Music on the Green at Flat Iron Park continues each Tuesday evening throughout the summer, offering free live entertainment in downtown Calais. The next concert, set for Tuesday, August 12, will feature the band Crossroads, performing country, classic rock, and blues. The Tuesday night concerts begin at 6:30 p.m. This performance is sponsored by Bangor Savings Bank, Washington County Community College, and Unleashed Nutrition. For updates on the concert series, follow CDRC - Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition on Facebook.

In non-music news … The Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge has announced that it maintains three blueberry fields that allow visitors to hand-pick berries for personal use. Folks can pick up to two quarts of blueberries per day. The fields are just west of the parking area near the public restrooms, near the beginning of the three-mile Headquarters Loop Trail.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
