What's Up, Calais?

The City of Calais has announced that all items and objects must be removed from city sidewalks by Monday, January 20, 2025, to ensure safe and efficient snow removal during the winter season. Items left on sidewalks make it difficult for crews to plow effectively, impacting the safety and accessibility of the community, and crews appreciate everyone’s cooperation.
This Saturday, January 25, the Calais Lions Club’s fishing derby is set to take place on Round Pound in Charlotte from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. The cost is $5 per hole, and the largest fish on the ice wins 50/50. There will be other prizes awarded also, and hot dogs and beverages will be available for purchase to benefit the club.
Saturday night, January 25, the PTO will be hosting its Adult Prom at St. Croix Tap & Table. This event takes place from 8 to 11 p.m. Formal wear is encouraged, and tickets can be purchased via Venmo at @calais-PTO or reach out to CES PTO on Facebook or email [email protected]. Proceeds from all ticket sales go to the CES playground fund.
Also benefiting the school’s playground fund is a cribbage tournament slated for Saturday, February 1. This is also being held at St. Croix Tap & Table. It is a doubles tourney, and teams pay just $20 to compete, with the winning team taking half the pot. Stop in, message, or call St. Croix Tap & Table to sign up.
Other upcoming events scheduled for February include the free community dinner at Second Baptist Church on Friday, February 7. On the menu is a variety of soups and chili, rolls, salad, and dessert, set for 4:30 to 6 p.m. For more details, visit calaisbaptist.org or call 207-454-2579.
Then, on Saturday, February 8, the inaugural Frost Fair: A Winter Fun Day at Moosehorn National Wildlife Refuge will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Enjoy outdoor activities like snowshoeing and hayrides, warm up by the bonfire, and partake in snacks and drinks. Indoor seating and activities will also be available. This event is made possible by Moosehorn, Friends of Moosehorn, and Healthy Acadia. More details will be shared soon.
Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
