With Halloween here, we hope everyone has a fun and safe night out trick-or-treating. Whether you’re escorting little ghouls and goblins door to door or welcoming them at your doorstep, enjoy the spooky time! Happy Halloween from all of us at The Calais Advertiser, and don’t forget the Calais Free Library’s Halloween Parade across Main Street at 3:30 p.m.

Election Day is just around the corner on this coming Tuesday, November 5. Voting is a powerful way to shape our community and make your voice heard on issues that matter most. Whether it’s local leadership, schools, or community initiatives, each vote counts. Polls will be open throughout the day at the rec. center, so take a few minutes to head over and cast your ballot.

Winners have been announced for Calais High School’s junior class’s “Pick or Treat” basket raffle. Amber Anderson was drawn first and selected the four tickets to Treworgy Farms in Levant. Tyler Cobb won the basket of Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas decorations.

On Monday, Nov. 11, the young cheerleaders making up the Calais Rec. Shooting Stars and Shining Stars Cheer teams are hosting a spaghetti dinner with a Chinese auction. This fundraiser will be held at the Calais Motor Inn from 4 to 7 p.m. The cost is just $7 for students and $10 for adults, with takeouts available too. For more details, contact Ashley Melhiser at [email protected]

The Wednesday Morning Knitters program at Calais Free Library will meet on Nov. 13, Nov. 27, and Dec. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon. All skills are welcome, and refreshments will be available. For more information, call 207-454-2758.

The Second Baptist Church is offering a free Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday, Nov. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. All are welcome to dine in or get a meal to go. Those who live within 10 minutes of the church and could use a meal delivered, call 207-454-2579 by 3 p.m. Friday, Nov. 15, to get on the list.

December may seem far off, but it will be here before you know it! All are invited to a festive “Christmas Crafternoon” on Saturday, December 7, at St. Croix Tap & Table, beginning at 3 p.m., where Heather Bowles will guide participants in creating decoupage ornaments, swags, and wreaths. The cost is $35, which includes all materials and a snack plate. To secure your spot, please submit the fee at the time of reservation, as spaces are limited to 25 participants and are filling up quickly.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
