What's Up, Calais?

A big thanks to all who helped make CDRC’s Harvest Festival a fun one!  Many groups took on events to host, including Calais High School’s JMG, Elijah Anderson and the Maine Army National Guard, Jaida Jamieson and Downeast Recovery Support Center, Calais Community Hospital, the Brendan Leddy Memorial Fund, Smith’s Towing & Recovery, Demo Salvage, and Cindy Wartman and Heather Bowles.

This Friday, October 11, is the annual Turkey-a-Thon.  For a donation of just $12, you can help put a turkey on a family’s table over the holidays  There are many drop-off points throughout the county, and in Calais, it’s the V.L. Tammaro office and in Baileyville, the IGA.  For those wishing to donate, but are unable to drop off a donation, donations payable to “Turkey-a-Thon” can be mailed to WQDY Inc, 637 Main Street, Calais, ME  04619.  Donations can also be sent via Venmo at @Jeff-Demmons or via PayPal at jeffreydemmons1.

A bean supper at Calais Methodist Church, 849 Main Street, will take place next Thursday, October 17, starting at 5 p.m.  To order a takeout, call 207-454-3926.

A reminder that Calais Community Thrift Store now has coats available at no cost for those in need.  If you or someone you know needs one, stop by when the open flag is out and let one of the volunteers know.  The thrift store is located near the movie theater on Main Street.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
