What's Up, Calais?

It’s blueberry harvesting season! Soon you’ll be able to get some Mingo’s berries! Did you know…There are 480 wild blueberry farms in the state, ranging from 20 acres to thousands of acres. We all know that the best blueberries are Maine wild blueberries! A half a cup of 150 ripe wild blueberries can provide 200 to 400 mg. of polyphenols, which are plant compounds with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties that may lower blood sugar, blood pressure, and heart disease risk.
This Saturday, August 3, is Robbinston Days. The fun kicks off at 10 a.m. with a touch-a-truck, live music, food, history, and fun, all at the community center (the former grade school). You can find it on Facebook for more information.
Also on Saturday, a craft fair will be held in Charlotte to benefit the town’s volunteer fire department. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Charlotte Fire Station, 1100 Ayers Junction Road.
The annual children’s Peanut Fair is coming right up, but more volunteers are needed to set up, tear down, run games, sell concessions, and more. The fair takes place behind Calais Elementary School on Wednesday, August 7. If you can help, contact Calais PTO or Tomi Ellsmore on Facebook or call Betsy Barnard at CES, 207-454-2000. The money raised from this event will go to the school’s playground fund.
There will be a great night of music and inspiration at Calais High School on Monday, August 19, when Seventh Day Slumber hits the stage. The group is a Christian rock band from Texas. The show will take place from 6 to 9 p.m. Contact Pastor Johnny Chambers at 207-904-9005 to learn more.
Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
