A big thank you to Jane Eaton who spearheaded the annual plant sale earlier this month.  The sale took place at Flat Iron Park with all proceeds benefiting the Calais Downtown Revitalization Coalition (CDRC).

The farmers market has begun for the summer season. You can find it and all of the wonderful fresh produce and local goods at Flat Iron Park downtown every Tuesday from noon to 2 p.m.

This Friday, June 21, all are invited to the Calais Skatepark for a “Go Skateboarding Day” celebration.  From 4 to 6 p.m., there will be a skate session with music, snacks, and giveaways sponsored by the Brendan Leddy Memorial Fund.  Just before that, from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m., there is a pizza party at Jo’s Diner & Pizzeria with free pizza and drinks for all skaters and their parents.

This Saturday, June 22, is the benefit raffle for little Juliet Scott. It is set to take place at Calais Elementary School from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.  Proceeds will assist with her upcoming surgery costs. To donate raffle items, please contact Barbara Dore at 207-853-2386 or Victoria Dore at 207-271-7088.

Fourth of July is upon us, and it is worth mentioning the times of area parades. At 9 a.m., the parade is set to begin in Pembroke.  At 11 a.m., “The Best Parade in Maine by a Dam Site” will be held in Grand Lake Stream, along with many other events before and after.  In Eastport, the Grand Independence Day Parade will begin at 2 p.m. Of course, there are numerous events planned for the celebration there in the days leading up to the Fourth.

In Calais, the Calais Fire Association will host its annual Fourth of July games for kids.  More details will come in this publication.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
