Last Thursday’s Calais City Council meeting was canceled due to inclement weather. The next regular Calais City Council meeting is slated for Thursday, February 27, 2025, beginning at 6 p.m. These meetings are held in the council chambers at the city building and are open to the public. They are also live-streamed on Zoom and the city’s Facebook page.

One can keep updated on the latest city news, events, meetings, and emergencies through its notification service which allows residents to receive updates via text or email, ensuring they are always informed about important community developments. To sign up, visit the city’s website at calaismaine.org, navigate to the Community section, and click on Subscribe. After entering your name, address, email, and phone number, users can select topics they wish to stay informed about. The city still also utilizes its Facebook page to share updates.

The Red Knights of Maine Chapter 5 are selling raffle tickets for a chance to win $500 in heating assistance. The drawing will take place on March 8, and all proceeds will go toward providing scholarships for students at Woodland and Calais High Schools. If you don’t know a member of this firefighter-affiliated club, you can still purchase tickets via PayPal at [email protected], Venmo @Crissy-White-3, or Cashapp at BryceMaddiesMomma.

There’s still time to support Eastern Area Agency on Aging’s Paws for a Cause campaign. This supports the Furry Friends Food Bank (FFFB). As one of the few programs at Eastern Area Agency on Aging that operates without state or federal funding, FFFB relies on grassroots efforts like this to continue providing pet food to those in need. To make a donation and show your love for pets in need, visit EAAA.org/PawsforaCause.

The Calais Lioness Club is excited to announce its second annual Community-Wide Yard Sale Day, scheduled for Saturday, April 26. Participation is free; simply gather your items, host a sale, and provide the club with your address to have it included in the event listings. It’s a great way to declutter, shop local, and support the community. Last year’s was a huge hit, with sales across town, including the IGA parking lot, a more visible location for some.

Send me your news, your shout-outs for good deeds done, or your well wishes to give, and I’ll be sure to share them here. Until next week, I hope you stay well, stay safe, and be happy.
