Maine’s minimum wage will be going up 35 cents an hour on Jan. 1, according to the state’s Department of Labor -- nearly double what it was eight years ago when voters approved an hourly wage increase at the ballot box in 2016.

Under that law, the minimum wage increased $1 per hour annually until it reached $12, and has since been indexed based on inflation data.
