Karen M. Polley
Karen M. Polley, 73, passed away peacefully in her home after a brief battle with ovarian cancer on December 16, 2020. She was born in Calais, Maine on May 15, 1947 to Leo L. and Ruth E. (Durling) Kneeland of Wesley, Maine. The second of three children, she is predeceased by her elder sister, Donna (Kneeland) Eagan, and younger brother, Leo L. Kneeland Jr. She attended Calais High School and received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of Maine. Karen spent the last 30 years helping families in DownEast Maine as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Karen was a member of Machias Valley Baptist Church in Machias, Maine and she valued her Christian faith foremost in her life, which brought her much comfort in her final days. Karen will be remembered as a loving mom, a doting grandmother, a great friend, an avid traveler, and giving Christian who’s generosity and kindness touched the lives of many, particularly in her community.
Karen is survived by her husband of 30 years John L. Polley of Northfield. Her three children John W. Dray II of Crawford, Donna M. Dray of Bangor, and Kristina L. Dray of Portland, two stepdaughters Noelle Polley of Oregon and Christie Look of Warren, her grandchildren Alexandria Preston of Bangor, Garrett Preston of Machias, Ava Dray and Evan Dray of Machias, Payten Daniel of Florida, Daniel Dray Dunn of Florida, and Domenico Dunn of Portland. Great granddaughters Alana Preston of Bangor and McKenzie Felter of Warren, and great grandsons Ashton Gerrish of Bangor and Luke Crossman of Warren. Special mention to her life long friends Gwen Damon, June Ashmore, Joan Carter, Kathy Fitzhenry, and sister-in-law, Sherri Fraser. A celebration of life for family and friends will be held in the coming Spring.
