International Homecoming Festival Schedule of Events

Wednesday, August 6

10 a.m.-4 p.m. CDN – Around the Block Quilt Show at St. Peter's Anglican Church, 20 Church Street. Come and enjoy the work of the St. Croix Cotton Mill Quilters and their hand-quilting friends from the Anglican Parish of St. Stephen. Selected vintage quilts on loan from the Charlotte County museum will be on display.

11 a.m.-dusk CDN – Troy’s Amusements presents the festival Mini-Carnival. Rides, cotton candy, candy apples, and more. Open daily during festival at Border Arena, King Street.

Noon-4 p.m. CDN – Tea and Trivia at Charlotte County Museum, 443 Milltown Blvd. Come enjoy an afternoon of Charlotte County history and indulgence with tea and locally baked goods.

4 p.m.-6 p.m. U.S. – Children’s Peanut Fair, Calais Elementary School. Plastic peanuts can be purchased with cash or Venmo and used for games to win prizes. “Doctors” and “nurses” at the Doll Hospital and Teddy Bear Clinic will also be onsite, providing emergency care for all sick or injured dolls and stuffed animals. Sponsored by Calais PTO.

5 p.m. U.S./6 p.m. CDN – Meet & Greet on the American side. Complimentary hot dogs and beverages provided by the City of Calais. Come meet and celebrate with friends and neighbors before the opening ceremony.

6 p.m. U.S./7 p.m. CDN – Opening Ceremony. "Hands Across the Border" on Ferry Point Bridge. Help us celebrate on the bridge with our annual handshake and flag exchanges, followed by dessert on the bridge.

7 p.m.-10 p.m. U.S. – Street Dance with DJ Jamie Bohanon, City Building parking lot, for kids of all ages. Sponsored by Calais Fire Association.

8 p.m. U.S. – Night Golf, St. Croix Country Club. Register at dusk. $20 entry fee or $25 with cart (driver’s license required). Non-members welcome. Sponsored by St. Croix Country Club. For more information or to pre-register, call 207-454-8875. 

Thursday, August 7

11 a.m.-5 p.m. CDN – “International Flags” at Little Gems, 125 Milltown Blvd. Search the store high and low, find a flag, and snag a prize or discount on your purchase. August 7 and 8 during store hours.

11 a.m.-9 p.m. CDN – St. Stephen Mini Golf Gardens presents a free day of mini-golf. Located at 15 Eddie Lane, beside Elite Strength Academy. See www.ss_mini_golf_gardens.com.

11 a.m.-dusk CDN – Troy’s Amusements presents the festival Mini-Carnival. Rides, cotton candy, candy apples, and more. Open daily during festival at Border Arena, King Street.

2-6 p.m. CDN – Join us for the 3rd Annual IHF Kids Fun Day, with free carnival games and inflatables with the chance to win prizes. See the International Homecoming Festival Facebook page for more information. Garcelon Civic Center, arena surface.

6-8:30 p.m. U.S. – Take Two, featuring accomplished musicians Frank Richard and Deb Richard LaPointe, at Flat Iron Park. This free concert is presented by St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce with sponsorship by Washington County Community College.

6 p.m. U.S. – Sidewalk Chalk Art, Flat Iron Park. Kids of all ages are welcome to come and create art on the sidewalk. Chalk will be provided or bring your own. Sponsored by Downeast Credit Union.

6:30-8:30 p.m. CDN – St. Stephen Summer Concert Series at David Alison Ganong Chocolate Park, featuring Helga & Howard. Rain location: Garcelon Civic Center.

Friday, August 8

9 a.m.-5 p.m. CDN – Christmas in August at the Charlotte County Museum, 443 Milltown Blvd. A blast from the past of holiday fun! Step into the museum and experience Christmas like it is the 1800s, adorned with vintage decorations.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. CDN – Join us at the St. Stephen Vendor’s Market, Downtown St. Stephen’s premiere artisan, vendor, and food market at Municipal Plaza (between the library and 5 Kings Restaurant). It’s Kids Day at the Market! Featuring Science East experiments for kids and library activities.

11 a.m.-dusk CDN – Troy’s Amusements presents the festival Mini-Carnival. Rides, cotton candy, candy apples, and more! Open daily during festival at Border Arena, King Street.

Noon-2 p.m. U.S. – Kinney’s Customer Appreciation (formerly O’Brien’s), hosting a free hot dog lunch, 520 Main Street.

1-3 p.m. CDN – IHF Family Afternoon of Fun at the FRC! Join us at the Family Resource Centre, 103 Milltown Blvd., for a fun-filled afternoon featuring a variety of stations for all ages. Enjoy temporary tattoos, creative crafts, engaging story time, colouring activities, and exciting games.

5:30 p.m. U.S. & 6:30 p.m. CDN – International Alumni Basketball Classic, where you can see former Calais High and St. Stephen High “greats of the game” take the court one more time. This fun international competition will feature the Lady Blue Devil Alumni facing off against the Lady Spartan Alumni at 5:30 p.m. (U.S. time), followed by the Blue Devil Alumni vs. Spartan Alumni at 6:30 p.m. (U.S. time). All money raised will benefit local nonprofit The Blue Devil Fund (with plans to impact both sides of the border).

7-9 p.m. CDN – Glow in the Dark skating fun at Garcelon Civic Center. $2.25 youth/students/seniors; $3.25 adults.

Saturday, August 9

8 a.m. U.S. – Calais Rec. One-Mile Fun Run, Memorial Park. A one-mile run for kids ages 4 to 12 with awards in many age groups. Register by 7:45 a.m., no fee to enter. Sponsored by Calais Recreation Department. For more information, call Craig Morrison, 207-214-8792.

8 a.m.-4 p.m. U.S. – Street Fair, downtown Calais. Main Street will be lined with vendors, jewelry, clothes, gifts, and more. Sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Chamber of Commerce. For more information, email [email protected].

8 a.m.-2 p.m. U.S. – Calais Lioness Super Draw, Calais Street Fair. Purchase tickets to win great prizes from nearly 100 local merchants. Drawing is at 2 p.m.

9 a.m. U.S. – 46th Annual Johnson’s True Value International 5-Mile Race, Calais Memorial Park. This two-nation race is a USATF and Athletics Canada Certified course that begins in Calais, travels through St. Stephen, and finishes back in the States. Requires participants to register from 7 to 8 a.m. U.S. and provide a passport. $20 pre-registration, $25 race day. For more information, call Craig Morrison at 207-214-8792. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. CDN – Ganong's Chocolate Scavenger Hunt at Charlotte County Museum, 443 Milltown Blvd. A hidden adventure of Ganong's artifacts for you to find throughout the museum. See if you can find them all and win a small prize.

10 a.m.-2 p.m. CDN – Join us for a special parade day Vendor’s Market, featuring premier artisan, vendor, and food market on Budd Ave., in front of the Garcelon Civic Center.

10 a.m. CDN – Dooly's International Pool Tournament, 123 King Street. Singles Tournament $30 to enter, cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, 3rd place. Double elimination. Race to three. 10 a.m.-3 p.m. U.S. – Red Knights Chapter 5 Motorcycle Show & Family Fun Day, North Street Municipal Parking Lot, across from post office. Motorcycle show noon to 2 p.m., games 2-3 p.m., loudest bike competition 3 p.m. Free kids games, dunk tank, bounce house, food truck, and more.

11 a.m. U.S./noon CDN – PARADE! (We are family) We Hug It Out. Beginning at Calais Motor Inn and ending at Brigg’s Plumbing in St. Stephen. 

Following Parade – U.S.: Barbara's International School of Dance, Flat Iron Park. Bring a blanket or chair and enjoy watching our local talent in a dance program. For more information, contact Barbara Lara at 207-214-6988.

1:30 p.m. US. – Jo’s Pizza Eating Contest at Flat Iron Park. Starting with the under-18 soda drinking contest (two age groups), then 18 and over pizza eating contest (men and women divisions). Pizza-eating contestants can sign up at Jo’s Pizza or call 207-454-8400.

2-4 p.m. U.S. – 5th Annual Skate 4 Life Event at the Calais Skatepark. Brought to you by the nonprofit, Brendan Leddy Memorial Fund. This is a free event for all ages, experience levels, and action sports. Cash Prizes and lots of giveaways. Local skate shop Undertow, from Machias, will set up products to sell at the park.

4-6 p.m. U.S. – Grapple for Growth Invitational, a high-energy, pin-only wrestling and submission-only Jiu-Jitsu event, empowering youth and adult athletes in rural Maine. Free to compete; for tickets or to register via email, go to [email protected]. Tickets $25 at the door or $20 pre-sale. Kids 5 and under free.

6:30 p.m. U.S. – Join us at Flat Iron Park and listen to the musical stylings of the top three winners of St. Croix Idol prior to fireworks.

7 p.m. U.S. – Kids’ Candy Scramble, Flat Iron Park. Children can take part in the fun candy shell-out during the concert. Sponsored by the International Homecoming Festival Committee.

7:30 p.m.-dusk CDN – Join us at St. Stephen waterfront park for vendors and music by Full Circle before the fireworks display.

DUSK – FIREWORKS! Fireworks show over the St. Croix River. Enjoy the fantastic fireworks display from either side of the river! Brought to you by the City of Calais & Municipal District of St. Stephen.

Sunday, August 10

11 a.m.-dusk CDN – Troy’s Amusements presents the festival Mini-Carnival. Rides, cotton candy, candy apples, and more! Open daily during festival at Border Arena, King Street.

11:30 a.m. U.S. – Floating Flamingo Fun Fundraiser. Fill the Calais pool with rubber flamingos by purchasing a number for your floating flamingo. Special divers will then scoop up three lucky flamingo numbers to be the winners. 1st dive $500, 2nd dive $200, 3rd dive $100. $5/number with all proceeds going to Sarah’s House of Maine. 6 p.m. U.S. – International Community Worship at Bi-Centennial Park. Hosted by Common Ground Church. Join for fun and fellowship.
