Even though the real reason for Easter is rooted in faith and reflection, there’s no harm in letting the little ones have some fun with the more traditional, playful side of the holiday, especially when it involves colorful eggs, sweet treats, and the Easter Bunny. Throughout the area, families will find several opportunities to enjoy festive community events this Easter season, with three major egg hunts planned in Princeton and Calais over the next two weekends.

Princeton’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt – April 12

Kicking things off is Princeton Parks & Recreation’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt, set for this Saturday, April 12, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Princeton Fire Station. This fun and free event promises plenty of excitement for kids and families.

The Easter Bunny will be there to entertain and pose for photos, while children search for hidden eggs and receive special goodie bags. Refreshments will be available, and six lucky winners will walk away with fun door prizes, ranging from beginner to advanced Lego kits. Organizers encourage everyone to mark their calendars and help make this another successful town tradition.

Calais Community Easter Egg Hunt – April 19

The following weekend, on Saturday, April 19, the National Honor Society at Calais High School will once again host the Calais Community Easter Egg Hunt, now in its fifth consecutive year. Hundreds of children are expected to participate in the NHS hunt, which will take place at the elementary school playground.

In addition to the on-site egg hunt, NHS is encouraging residents and businesses to join in by placing plastic eggs filled with treats on their lawns or porches by 9 a.m. on the day of the event. To keep the spirit fair and fun, children are asked to take just one egg per location unless told otherwise.

Those interested in being a participating home or business can sign up via the “Support for All Things Calais Area” Facebook group or by emailing NHS Advisor Mrs. Anne Scott at [email protected].

Easter Fun at the Calais Fire Station – April 19

Also happening on April 19, the Calais Fire Association will hold its own annual Easter Egg Hunt at the fire station. As in years past, kids will meet the Easter Bunny and take part in a unique hunt in and around the fire trucks. Each child will be assigned a number and challenged to find four matching eggs. Once they’ve completed the hunt, they’ll receive a treat bag and have the chance to sign up for a larger prize drawing.

To support future family-friendly community events, volunteers from the Calais Fire Association will be accepting donations at a road toll on North Street, near the fire station, that same day.

Charlotte’s Easter Egg Hunt at Maritime Munchkins – April 19

Maritime Munchkins, located at 1006 Ayers Junction Road in Charlotte, will be hosting its own free Easter Egg Hunt also on Saturday, April 19, starting at 11 a.m. and continuing until all the eggs have been found. The event is open to children 12 and under, and families are reminded to bring their own baskets. Organizers kindly ask families to empty the eggs and return them to the provided boxes so the event can be held again next year.

There will also be an Easter basket raffle with all proceeds supporting the K-8 scholarship fund. Raffle tickets are available in various bundles, with better deals for larger purchases of tickets. A 30/70 raffle of all tickets sold will also be held, giving attendees a fun way to support a good cause and maybe take home a prize.

Girl Scout Troop 1608 Easter Egg Hunt in Princeton – April 19

Girl Scout Troop 1608 is also joining the Easter fun by hosting a hunt on Saturday, April 19, at Princeton Elementary School starting at 2 p.m. Children are invited to bring their baskets and enjoy this community event in search of treat-filled eggs and even some special golden eggs. The Easter Bunny will be making an appearance, providing perfect photo opportunities for families.
