Calais Rod & Gun Club Women’s Introduction to Shooting Safety

The Calais Rod & Gun Club, located in Charlotte, was recently home for two women’s handgun courses. The first was held on June 4th, with 16 local women participating. The Women’s Introduction to Shooting Safety is a comprehensive introduction to handgun basics and shooting safety. The classroom session included basics on handgun terminology, components, and operation of various types of handguns with an emphasis on safety. This was followed by live range time consisting of familiarization with, handling of, and shooting a variety of .22 caliber handguns along with personalized instruction. Participants included beginners as well as seasoned shooters giving a well-rounded experience.

The Introduction Class was followed up on June 18th with a Women’s Intermediate course that again brought out several local women. The Women’s Introduction to Shooting Safety Course is a prerequisite to this more advanced class. In this workshop, classroom instruction was followed by live range training with participant’s own handguns and ammo as well as handguns of other calibers and with various accessories. This program is designed to give the handgun user familiarity, experience and confidence in safely handling their own handgun.

Both workshops have been received with much interest and well attended. Participants stated they were looking for training to safely protect themselves and obtain confidence in handling their firearms. Both courses focus on all aspects of safe handling and shooting that provides next level experience.

We thank Range Safety Officers and experienced instructors from the Calais Rod & Gun Club for volunteering their time and supplies to provide this valuable opportunity for women.
