Last week, postal employees in Calais joined together to wish Postmaster Debbie Dow a happy retirement.
Dow, a lifelong resident of Calais, has been employed with the Postal Service for 24 years in six different offices. The last six years, she has served as the Postmaster in Calais.
“I will miss seeing all my friendly faces checking their PO boxes, stopping for stamps and a smile, as well as my amazing team,” Dow said, adding that she extends a “heartfelt thanks” to all those who lent a helping hand along the way to contribute to her success.
Dow said she owes a big thanks to her children Kelly and Shaun, as well, who she said always gave great support as she worked toward achieving her career goals. “I wll always remember getting that call in the summer of 2015, offering me the Postmaster position at my hometown in Calais,” she shared. “We were in Chicago in Shaun’s jeep and flipped down the top to blast music in celebration.”
A representative from USPS said an officer in charge, Kara Schmitter, Postmaster from Princeton, will fill Dow’s position until a replacement is found.
“My thanks to everyone in Calais and the surrounding areas. It’s been my honor to serve as your Postmaster,” Dow said.
