Alice Ingersoll, of Robbinston, was recently honored with the Boston Post Cane.  The cane is a symbol of respect, commemorating the oldest living resident of a town.  

Ms. Ingersoll, whose friends describe her as very spry for 90 years young, is mother to son John and daughters Lynn and Susan and grandmother to many grandchildren.

Fall for many means a variety of things. For many students in high school, fall typically means getting into uniform and playing sports. This year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many students who lost their spring sports season were dealt the blow that the Baileyville School Board voted 3-2 to not hold a fall sports season either.

Milltown, NB Fire Destroys Home

Thick, black smoke could easily be seen from Milltown, Maine on Saturday, Sept. 12 from a fire in Milltown, New Brunswick.  The smoke was from a structure fire across the St. Croix River that resulted in crews from St. Stephen, Oak Bay, and Calais Fire Departments having to respond.  The call was received around 10:30 a.m. AST.

Michael Boies has decided to retire from his position as the Baileyville Parks and Recreation Director after over three decades. 

“I’ve had this job for a little over 35 years. Almost 36. A long time. I’m on my third generation of participants in my programs,” said Boies. “I was a parks and recreation director up in the Milo/ Brownville area so I came in with some background and things like that back in ‘85.”

Coastal Conservancy Partners with Astronomers Club for Stargazing Event

This Saturday night, Downeast Coastal Conservancy (DCC) will host the Reversing Falls Night Sky Tour at its preserve in Pembroke.  The event, with the presentation provided by Downeast Amateur Astronomers, will give attendees a view of constellations and will also provide on-the-spot imaging of deep sky objects, shown through a special type of telescope.

Senator Collins Participates in Eastport Airport Groundbreaking

 

U.S. Senator Susan Collins, the Chairman of the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, delivered the keynote address at a groundbreaking ceremony at Eastport Municipal Airport on October 13.  Senator Collins secured a $5,806,900 grant for runway and lighting improvements, as well as for wastewater infrastructure.
