False 911 Call Leads to Drug Bust of New York Man

A false 911 call from a home in Addison led to the arrest of Andres Rivera of Lynbrook, New York on drug charges, the Maine Department of Public Safety said in a press release following the incident last week. 

Authorities say they received a call at approximately 8 p.m. on the evening of Dec. 27, claiming that shots were being fired at an East Side Road residence.

The Cobscook Current 4-H Club and community members spread joy and seasonal cheer as they helped assemble dozens of gift bags and hand-delivered them to brighten the holidays for several elderly residents in the Edmunds area. 

The heartwarming community service project, organized by Debbie Leighton for the past 33 years, has become an annual tradition anticipated by the volunteers and the seniors.

It’s one-and-done for first-term District 10 Rep. Kenneth “Bucket” Davis (R-East Machias), as he announced last week that he is not seeking re-election in 2024. Instead, Davis is endorsing former state Rep. Will Tuell (R-East Machias), whom Davis replaced two years ago. 

Davis, who was elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 2022, replaced Tuell, who termed out after serving from 2015 to 2022.

New Brunswick Business Improvement Areas (BIAs) have secured funding from the Provincial Department of Environment and Local Government through the Downtown New Brunswick fund, specifically the Investment Initiative for Business Improvement Areas.

Administered by the Downtown New Brunswick Association, this initiative allocates grants for collaborative projects co-funded by the BIAs in the Province of New Brunswick.

Princeton’s Virginia Newman Receives Boston Post Cane

The event in honor of Virginia Newman was held at the Princeton Town Office. The ever-busy town treasurer, Donna Worden, and town clerk, Sue Lawless, had set up tables for guests and decorated a serving table to display the cane and plaque, along with a cake commemorating her special day. The presentation of the cane and plaque was made by selectman Wayne Croman, and Princeton photographer Fred Knapp took the official photograph, which will be hung in the town office.
