It was a topsy-turvy game on Friday, when the Blue Devils played host to the visiting Shead Tigerettes.  

Shead jumped out to a 9-0 lead in the first inning, then Calais chipped away at the lead, eventually distancing themselves to earn the 22-12 win.

Ashaliegh Sulkowski led the offensive onslaught for Calais with four hits and three RBI.  She alo crossed the plate five times.

Bangor Christian Outlasts Woodland in Extra Inning Semi-Final Thriller

After beating the Fort Fairfield Tigers 8-2 in quarter-final action on Friday, June 9, the three-seed Woodland Dragons were hosted by the number two seed Bangor Christian Patriots in a Class D Northern Maine semi-final baseball game on Saturday at Husson University. 

The game started off as a pitching duel, as Woodland pitcher and DAC Player of the Year Evan Curtis and Patriots pitcher Cole Payne would not allow a single hit until the later innings.

Calais Rec. Dept. Junior High Team Honored

 

The eighth graders who played on the recreation department’s junior high softball team were recently honored. CHS Boys Tennis are Northern Maine Runners Up

 

Jeremy Turner Named PVC Player of the Year

On the boys side, the Calais tennis team navigated through a very tough schedule and finished the regular season at 12-0.  This led them to the number two seed heading into the playoffs.

After playoff victories over Madawaska and Washington Academy, the boys earned the right to play in the Northern Maine Class C Championship at Bates College in Lewiston against an undefeated top-seeded Orono team.

Woodland Baseball Standouts Play in State Senior All-Star Game

Two local athletes played last week in the 2023 Class C/D North vs. South Senior Baseball Game, which took place on Thursday, June 22 at St. Joseph’s College in Standish. 

Shane McIver and Braden Richard, both recent graduates of Woodland High School, were among those invited in a trio of games at the college.  The games included the Class C/D Senior All-Star Game, the Class A/B Senior All-Star Game, and an underclassmen game.

IHF Kids’ Day Tennis

 

During the International Homecoming Festival and Chocolate Festival, several Calais youth enjoyed being introduced to tennis by participating in the IHF Kids’ Day at the Garcelon Civic Center and signing up for the Sweet Spot Tennis Challenge at the Milltown Memorial Tennis Courts. Judo Classes in Princeton End for Summer

 

On Saturday, August 12, Sensei Robert Karr taught his final Judo class for this summer. 

Karr suggested to Princeton Parks & Recreation last winter that he would like to offer and teach a Judo program. Parks & Rec. then obtained permission from the Town of Princeton and applied to use the elementary school. 

Meanwhile, Karr supplied the mats and Judo GIs clothing. The first class was held on Saturday, June 10 and ran for six weeks. Due to the enthusiastic response, a second series started on July 22.

Calais Cross Country Team Makes Strides in Early Season Races

Calais High School’s cross country team has been hitting the trails in an impressive start to their 2023 season.  With four races under their belts, the team is showing promising talent and dedication.

Under coach Crissy O’Rourke, the roster is packed with talent, featuring sophomores Philip Bassett and Wyatt Demmons and seniors Liberty Hodge, Keegan Trainor, and Bailey O’Rourke.

CHS Cross Country Team Delivers Impressive Performance at Seacoast Invitational

In a great display of skill and determination, the cross country team from Calais High School left its mark at the Seacoast Invitational Race held at Sumner High School on Saturday, September 23.

Senior Bailey O’Rourke clinched a fifth place finish on the girls’ side.

For the boys, sophomore Philip Bassett secured an impressive ninth place finish, while senior Keegan Trainor claimed the 15th position.
