In the recent Calais City Council session, concerned citizens voiced their concerns regarding disruptive behavior from youth, with incidents ranging from mischief to even arson.  The meeting, held last Thursday, saw a gathering of residents advocating for stricter measures to address what they perceive as a growing problem.

Thursday, May 9, is the Harlem Wizards basketball game at Woodland High School.  Doors open at 6 p.m., and the game starts at 7 p.m.  Proceeds from this fun event will benefit

After a long winter’s nap, black bears in Maine are stirring from their dens, driven by the need to replenish their lost body weight.  According to the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife (MDIFW), Maine boasts the largest population of black bears in the contiguous United States, and their activity peaks between April 1 and November 1.

Saint Croix Island International Historic Site opens its Visitor Center at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 25.  Admission to park grounds is free of charge and park rangers will offer a variety of public programs throughout the season, which runs to October 31. The grounds are already open.

In addition to guided tours, kids of all ages can take part in our Junior Ranger program.  Each can stamp their Passport to the Parks book, take part in a monthly interactive program, or picnic at one of the benches.

Calais Police Department recently introduced its newest police sergeant, Chris McCann, who assumed his new role on April 28.  Joining Calais Police Department in October 2022, after a distinguished career in a Maryland department, Sgt. McCann brings a wealth of experience to the force.
